PEMPHIGUS
General Information:
Pemphigus is a group of severe skin disorders resulting
from improper functioning of the animal's immune system. Skin
changes generally occur in:

The cause of pemphigus is unknown, but all cases involve autoantibody production,
in which the animal's immune system produces antibodies that attack
its own body cells.
Treatment Information:
Pemphigus is a serious condition, and many cases
are eventually fatal.
- Treatment involves large doses of anti-inflammatory
and/or anti-cancer drugs. Side effects are common, and various
blood tests and regular physical examinations are necessary to
monitor progress and side effects during treatment.
- Many animals require lifelong therapy.
- All the medication must be given as directed.
Call your veterinarian's office if you cannot carry out any prescribed
treatment.
- Watch your pet closely, and report any unusual
activities or signs to your veterinarian's office.
